Conquest of the Incas By: George Miller and Alexander Kelley

2 About the Incas The Inca road system was a network of roads that connected from the tips of the empire. They led to Cuzco stretching more than 10,000 miles Before the spanish came to Cuzco there could have been as many as 200,000 residents in Cusco which was twice as much as the capital of spain For burial ceremonies rulers were buried with their favorite items like pots, pans, and items with importance They built Machu Picchu which is one of the coolest places on Earth and is one of the seven MODERN wonders of the world The inca built terraces so they could farm and they did not have a plow so they used their feet

3 About the Inca continued
The primary weapons for the army of the inca were the spear and the shield according to the picture The Inca had a plentiful supply of gold because the andes are rich in minerals The inca planted vegetables which include potatoes, corn, beans, and squash as a main source for food because not very many animals lived at 10,000 feet above sea level

4 Francisco Pizarro ( the leader)
Hernan Cortes a spanish conquistador was a distant cousin of Pizarro. He led the conquest to take down and steal the Incas gold. In 1502 Pizarro was part of Nicholas de Ovando journey to the caribbean He arrived for his first attempt to conquer the inca in 1531 which failed Then he arrived in 1532 he executed the Incan emperor He then on his third attempt destroyed the empire by 1535

5 Essential Questions How did the desire for natural resources lead to conflict between the Incas and Spanish? The desire for natural resources led to conflicts between the Incas and the Spanish because the Incas had lots of gold and the Spanish wanted it. The Spanish attacked the Incas for it.

6 Essential Questions Continued
2. What were the economic effects of the conquest of the Incas on Spain and the rest of the World? The economic effect of the conquest of the Incas on Spain and the rest of the world was since Pizarro was a ruthless killer, he stole all the gold on LLAMAS and he took it to his boats. They then melted gold and sold it to become RICH. It gave the spanish a ton of money to be used to explore more land, take down other cities, or make an army. After that, the spanish started a raid of California and western areas.

7 Weird Facts About the incas (really weird FACTS)
There is a lake in peru and if you stick your hands in the lake and if you dig deep enough in the muck you can find potatoes that are 500 years old :) The inca had popcorn and it is not what you expect It rains every single day because of the elevation of the Andes mountains

8 Lets test what you learned
Why were the Incas successful? They took over many cities and stole their valuables. They were pirates in the Indian Ocean. Their army was very powerful compared to everyone else. They traded with people all over the world, receiving spices, food, and other resources. They also gave people free gifts and later received something in return. They lived on piles and piles of gold and were friendly with the people around them. They grew crops on the fertile soil they owned. They barely succeeded because after they built Machu Picchu, they were destroyed by the spanish.
