Today’s Topics 1. Heat and Temperature 2. Three Ways Heat is Transferred
3
What is Heat? heat - the amount of energy/motion that is present in an atom or molecule

What is Temperature? English System: Fahrenheit (°F) .
(boiling point of water = 212°F) (freezing point of water = 32°F) Metric System: Celsius (°C) . (boiling point of water = 100°C) (freezing point of water = 0°C) temperature - a measurement of the amount of energy/motion present in an atom or molecule Absolute Zero -460°F
6
Three Ways Heat is Transferred
Conduction – heat is transferred through the collision of atoms Convection – heat is transferred by a moving fluid (heat rises!), usually water or air Radiation – atoms are heated by light
7
