1 Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Framework in Wood and Timber Industries Levels 2 & 3
Construction Scotland Innovation Centre Friday 17 November 2017 Presented by Andrew Gibson MIMMM AIWSc.

2 Why Scottish Modern Apprenticeships ?
The Level 2 Scottish Modern Apprenticeship has been designed to help fill skills gaps and shortages, and to attract younger people into the industry and provide them with the skills, knowledge and experience which employers are seeking to recruit and retain. In addition, the framework provides a progression route which will help to upskill the existing workforce to meet future economical, environmental and technological changes within the Wood industry. The industry has agreed that a single framework with different pathways available will best suit their needs.

3 Types of Scottish Modern Apprenticeships
There are three types of Scottish Modern Apprenticeships Foundation Apprenticeships ( FA ): Bringing education closer to industry. Foundation Apprenticeships give school pupils a taste of the world of work and help employers shape future talent. Modern Apprenticeships ( MA ): Including the Modern Apprenticeship in Wood and Timber Industries. Graduate Level Apprenticeships ( GLA ): Taking work-based learning higher, Graduate Level Apprentices can study up to Masters degree level.

4 Recruitment and selection of Scottish Modern Apprenticeships
The recruitment and selection of Modern Apprentices is the responsibility of the employer and the training provider. Employees may enter a Modern Apprenticeship from the age of 16. There is no upper age limit. The Modern Apprenticeship is designed to attract high quality people to the industry. Achievement of academic qualifications is one way of assessing the suitability of applicants. However it should be stressed that nobody should be deterred from applying for a Modern Apprenticeship because of a lack of formal educational qualifications. Funding for a Modern Apprenticeship may be available for candidates aged 16 to 19. Reduced funding may be available for candidates aged 20 to 24. Funding for 25 + is unlikely.
