Lifecycle of a Dog

Stage 1 – Mother and Babies
A baby dog is born to its mother. There are usually 5 or 6 pups born at the same time. This is called a ‘litter’ of pups. These tiny pups feed from their mother. They open their eyes after about 10 days.

Stage 2 - puppy Puppies feed from their mothers for about 4 weeks. Then they begin to eat other foods. Puppies need lots of care and attention. You can begin to train a puppy at 6 weeks. Puppies love to play.

Stage 3 – Adolescent This is like a ‘teenage’ dog! A dog is an adolescent dog from about 8 months old. He is learning about his world and growing up fast. Adolescent dogs need lots of exercise

Stage 4 - Adult This is the last stage in a dog’s life. At this stage your dog should be fully sized and fully trained. If it is a female dog, it may have puppies now. When a dog becomes less active and starts to slow down it is becoming old.

A Happy Family!

You can colour in your worksheet now!
