Henry was the third child of King John I of Portugal Henry started to explore the coast of Africa, and funded 50 explorations He wanted discover the source of West African Gold trade and find Spices in Asia. He gathered Europe’s best navigators and started a navigation school and mapmaking Helped to start European exploration pursuits and spread his religion He started the African slave Trade as he created sugarcane plantations

The commander of the first ships to sail directly from Europe to India and set up new trade routes He paved the way for the Portuguese to establish a long lasting colonial empire in Asia

Christopher Columbus Christopher Columbus was hired by Spanish monarchy Christopher Columbus believed that Asia would be 2,400 miles west. In fact, 10,000 nautical miles lay between Europe and Asia Christopher Columbus's first voyage with the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria began on August 3, 1492. He served King Charles I of Spain in search of a westward route to the "Spice Islands“ Magellan's expedition of 1519–1522 became the first expedition to sail from the Atlantic Ocean into the Pacific Ocean ("peaceful sea") The Strait of Magellan named after him His expedition completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth (around world)

Reports of Peru's riches and Cortés's success in Mexico tantalized Pizarro Pizarro went to New World and founded the first Spanish settlement in Peru, San Miguel de Piura Inca emperor Atahualpa was captured by Pizarro and executed Pizarro was assassinated by his own countrymen
