4 Daily Science 12/12/12 You and your friends are going to the playground for “slide races.” Teams have been picked and everybody is racing against somebody who is the same size as they are. There are two slides at the park. They are exactly the same, except one is made of bumpy plastic and the other is a shiny metal slide. You win the toss to pick the slide for your team. Which slide do you pick? Why? I would pick the shiny metal slide. Since it has a smooth surface, it probably wouldn’t create as much friction as the bumpy plastic slide. Less friction means my team wouldn’t get slowed down when we slid. We would get to the bottom first and WIN!

5 Daily Science 12/11/12 Put your text book in your desk.

6 Daily Science 12/11/12 I would put my sneakers on my feet. They are made to grip the floor. They create friction. Friction slows motion. The friction between the floor and my shoes will keep me from slipping and falling down. The wood floors have just been polished. They sparkle and shine. The rug hasn’t been put down yet, but you need to get across the room. What do you put on your feet before you walk across the room? Why? I would just put some socks on my feet. The socks wouldn’t create a lot of friction to slow me down, so I could glide across the room in no time flat!
