1 White Before Your Eyes James Seymour

2 Purpose The purpose of this lab is to:
Identify physical and chemical changes. Describe the physical properties of four substances. Classify four substances by there chemical properties. Describe four substances based on their properties and the changes that they undergo.

3 Hypothesis I believe that…

4 Materials Baking Soda Baking Powder Sugar Corn Starch Ice Trays
Water Bottles Iodine Solution Lab Scoops Stirring Rods Vinegar Water

5 Procedure Using a lab scoop, place a small amount of baking powder into 3 cups of the trays. Use just enough to cover the bottom. Record your observations about the appearance of the baking powder, such as texture and color and record in unmixed column of data sheet. Use a bottle to add 30 drops of water to the baking powder in the first cup. Stir with the stirring rod. Record observations in Table 1 in the Mixed with water.

6 Procedure 3. Use a clean dropper to add 20 drops of vinegar to the 2nd cup of baking powder. Stir. Record your observations in Table 1 labeled Mixed with vinegar. 4. Use a clean dropper to add five drops of iodine solution to the third cup of baking powder. Stir. Record your observations in Table 1 labeled Mixed with iodine solution. 5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each of the other substances (baking soda, cornstarch, sugar).

7 Observations/Results
This is where you write down any measurements, observations made, and data chart.

8 Conclusion Write a paragraph explaining the outcome of the lab.
Was hypothesis right or wrong. If wrong explain why. Explain what you learned from this lab and if you met the objective. Any questions you may have. Things you may want to find out in another lab
