Types of Reproduction in the Animal Kingdom
Sexual Reproduction and Asexual Reproduction including Budding, Gemmule Formation/Sporulation, Binary Fission, Regeneration
2
Sexual Reproduction The egg cell from the female parent and the sperm cell from the male parent unite and fertilization occurs. Offspring is diverse (genetically different) than parents.
3
Asexual Reproduction In asexual reproduction, no sex cells one parent.
uniform genetically identical or the same. asexual reproduction\Asexual_Reproduction.mov
4
Budding In budding, offspring grows out of the body of a parent.
An example of an animal that reproduces this way if hydra. This animal lives in water.. asexual reproduction\Budding.mov
5
Gemmule Formation/Sporulation
Gemmules are internal buds. The parent animal releases a mass of special cells that can develop into an offspring. An example = sponge. . Sporulation: Fungi – Mushrooms asexual reproduction\Sporulation.mov
6
Binary Fission Binary Fission
Parent cell and chromosomes copy and divide in half evenly. Example: Amoeba asexual reproduction\Protists__Binary_Fission.mov asexual reproduction\Bacteria__Binary_Fission.mov
7
Regeneration In regeneration, a piece of the parent animal gets detached. The piece can grow and develop into a whole new individual. It regenerates (or generates again) all the missing parts of the body. An example is the sea star or star fish. asexual reproduction\Regeneration.mov
