1 SMART Benchmarking Program Site Enhancement Planning
SMART Learning Seminar 2014 |October 6 & 7 SMART Benchmarking Program Site Enhancement Planning

2 Site Enhancement Plan Introduction
Suggestions taken from users via survey conducted during Spring 2014. Responses were summarized and presented to the SMART group during the CIM Conference in May Should site enhancements be undertaken, the effort would be viewed as a separate project from the typical SMART Benchmarking website operations with separate Scope of Work and budget. September 22, 2018

3 SMART Benchmarking Working Group
Site Enhancements guided by SMART Benchmarking Working Group (SBWG). Members include: Tom Demorest (Syncrude) Denise Logan (Imperial) Lisa Hunka (Suncor) Mollie Webb (Golder) Mathew Oommen (Golder) Additional members welcome! September 22, 2018

4 Phased Approach After reviewing user wishes, it became clear that most suggestions fell within one of two categories: Tasks requiring no additional data to be submitted by SMART participants (Phase 1) Tasks requiring additional data to be submitted by SMART participants (Phase 2) All suggested tasks are considered site enhancements. The division between these two types of tasks allowed a natural categorization of tasks as either “Phase 1” or “Phase 2” items. September 22, 2018

5 Phase 1 Overview Items that can be addressed by Golder without altering quarterly data submissions from SMART Participants Work on Phase 1 items could begin as soon as Scope of Work and Budget were agreed upon by Golder and SMART participants. Phase 1 items have been grouped into two categories: Data Categorization - new ways of presenting, filtering and/or aggregating the data User Experience - improvements to look and feel of website and communication with participants September 22, 2018

6 Phase 1 : Data Categorization
1) Classification of Operations by: General Category - Oil Sands vs. Non-Oil Sands Specific Category - Oil Sands, Coal, Hard Rock, Aggregates Potential confidentiality issues with this level of categorization due to the small number of SMART Benchmarking participants. 2) Classification of trucks by mechanical vs. electric drive 3) Classification of shovels by electric or hydraulic drive 4) New metric “Truck Work Factor” TFW (tonnes * km/WOH) September 22, 2018

7 Phase 1 : User Experience
5) Login Area easier to find 6) In “View Metrics” section – show both data and graph at the same time (data below the graph) 7) Report future plans and progress of SBWG on Intro page 8) Monthly report site usage statistics and change notices to all users. Change notices occur when: Significant new data is added – would need to quantify this. Existing data is change (error correction) New companies join or leave the group New types of equipment added Site enhancements or additions 9) Annual summary to all users – Excel file with all data and menu on first tab September 22, 2018

8 Phase 2 Overview Requests categorized as “Phase 2” items would, in most cases, require additional data to be submitted by most SMART participants. Items should be selected based on data availability at each of the participating operations. Incorporating new data would require significant changes to underlying SMART data normalization processes, database and website reporting structure. Phase 2 timeline would depend on participant data submittals and agreement on Scope of Work and Budget between Golder and SMART participants September 22, 2018

9 Phase 2 : New Data Items Time Classification Audit – confirm that time categories are classified the same way for participants that provide data in aggregated form. Time code classifications were provided to participants during the onboarding process and participants agreed to submit aggregated data in the appropriate category. This effort would be an independent examination of all time code classifications for all participants by Golder. Average age or fleet/equipment Number of units reported within each company’s equipment types Equipment models Delays measured per shift September 22, 2018

10 Phase 2 : New Data Items (continued)
Down time broken into “Unplanned” and “Planned” down time. Metrics by material category (Ore vs. Waste) Dragline productivity / Bucket index Box or Bucket Size classification (Fill Factor % or Horsepower rating) Key support equipment data reporting September 22, 2018

11 Project Workflow Summary
SMART Site Enhancements Phase I Phase II Data Categorization User Experience September 22, 2018

12 Phase 1 : Notes on Estimate
Not all enhancements must be undertaken – tasks can be selected and prioritized base on SMART organization need. Work on chosen enhancements will be performed sequentially according to priority. Actual timeframe for enhancement completion may change based on resource availability. Precise budget will be determined based on selected enhancements and presented in a proposal along with a detailed Scope of Work.

13 Phase 1 : Effort Estimate
Enhancement Item Budget ($US) Timeframe Estimate 1) Operations Classification Option A) Filtering By Operation Type $19,800 4 – 6 weeks Option B) Aggregated Data By Operation Type $37,800 8 – 10 weeks 2) Fleet Classification - Mechanical vs. Electric Drive Trucks $38,400 3) Fleet Classification - Hydraulic vs. Electric Drive Shovels 8 – 10 weeks 4) New Metric – Truck Work Factor $16,800 5) UI Improvement – Enhanced Login Area $3,900 2 -3 weeks 6) UI Improvement – Metrics section - Show both graphics and data table on same page $8,400 7) Report Working Group info on Intro page $1,800 1 week 8) Report site usage and change notices monthly $6,600 1 week set up + 1-2 days per month 9) Year End Summary $3,600 1 – 2 weeks Deployment and Project Management 15% - 20% of Total

14 Next Steps Determination of tasks to be included in Phase 1 and prioritization of these tasks (SMART Organization and SBWG) Scope of Work and Budget finalized (Golder) Formal Proposal submitted to SBWG (Golder) Proposal acceptance (SBWG) Phase 1 effort begins (Golder) After completion of top priority, reassessment of remaining Phase 1 tasks and the process begins again. (SMART Organization and SBWG) Phase 2 to be discussed after completion of Phase 1 September 22, 2018

15 To Participate In SMART Benchmarking
