We have chosen to be intentional about innovation, invested in: TIME PEOPLE PEOPLE: Full-time in-house Innovation Coach/Facilitator, + 13 trained “Coaches-at-Large” TIME: We set aside time to innovate, collaborate, strategize and be creative TOOLS: Trained facilitators using proven tools and methods to drive innovative thinking (Environmental Scan, Design Thinking, Root Cause Analysis, Ideation: Brainstorming, Brain-writing, Stimulus Response Innovation) TOOLS

Culture Measure, Recognize and Celebrate Believe we must innovate Happy to share Culture: It’s NOT a project, its part of the culture, a way of work Measure, Recognize and Celebrate - measure and report, reward innovative behavior (panels, promotion, awards, story-telling) Believe we must innovate – Shared vision among leadership = investment, action and support Happy to share - our model and knowledge

4 Project Management Support Office (PMSO)
R&D LEARNING We position projects for success by: 3 focus areas: R&D PMI – Project Management Institute – International PM Best Practices Develop TEMPLATES Tailoring industry best practices to be applicable to City projects Learning Opportunities Providing a variety of learning opportunities for staff. TRAINING – Each project brings new challenges requiring staff to grow and to adapt to the changing demands. Giving staff the knowledge to do better and opportunities to learn from each other results in better project delivery across the organization. COMMUNICATION Communication Increase the project management community by building awareness and outreach, we do this by SharePoint Project Sites, PM Community of Practice, PMAC - Advisory Committee with a cross department representation of project leads was established to provide input to the Project Management Support Office to ensure that the Office is providing products and services that are relevant in the field and meeting the needs of our project lead. 6 How do we Project Story tell through Innovation?
Project Kick-off and Developing a Shared Project Vision World Café Individual -> Group Brainstorming Random Stimulus Method Project Team Building – Mini Prototypes Project Debrief & Lessons Learned session Project Accelerator - Deep Dive These tools can be used throughout the life of the project Using the Consensus Workshop method we develop a vision for the project or whatever we are producing to get a unified understand of what the project is about Driving conversation by using cross-pollination that allows for deeper questions and answers. This is when you want to involve everyone in the room like public consultation, project steering committee or project team meeting. Individual -> Group Brainstorming Random Stimulus Method – uses a random object and has you relate it to your problem or topic Deep Dive – Takes 3-6 months of project work down to 2 days. Uses a ‘war room’
