DIALECT Shakespeare had a vocabulary extending beyond words. He introduced approximately 3000 words into our language. Our dialect is Modern English, the dialect used in Shakespeare's time is early Modern English.

RHYTHM He used whats called Iambic Pentameter whenever writing (also known as blank verse) Iambic Pentameter mimics the rhythm of a heartbeat. The rhythm lends naturally to theatre. When I do count the clock that tells the time.

IAMBIC MODIFICATION Shakespeare would modify iambic pentameter to suit his needs He would switch the strong and weak syllables or brief the typical pattern and make unique rhythms for special characters Modifications such as these reflect

WRITING He would write characters that seemed real by giving them visible flaws, instead of using stock characters He would appeal to all intelligences by writing in multiple genres

STORY He would switch from verse to prose during important dialogue This reflects the change in the story

LITERARY DEVICES He used many literary devices in his plays Literary devices used often include alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, puns and similes
