1. Ancient Greece: Attica
Cultural continuities and disruptions in Hellenic civilization in religion, commerce and art; history of the city of Athens. We will examine sites and artifacts that illustrate connections between the Aegean Peninsula and its islands, with North Africa and the Near East, from ca BCE-1450 CE, with supplementary primary and secondary source readings. Travel to major archaeological sites and museums on the mainland and one island (Athens, Delphi, Peiraeus, Eleusis, Brauron, Sounion, Aegina).
*To participate in all the required activities you must be able to walk on rough terrain and on city streets at a normal pace.

2. Itinerary and schedule
March 11 depart U.S. (Friday)
March 12 arrive at Hellenikon Airport, Athens, by 4 p.m. local time. Depart on bus with Section One for Delphi (Saturday). Overnight in Delphi
March 13 visit the Sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi and the Delphi Museum. Section One returns to Athens (Sunday) Stay in Athens until March 20, when return to U.S. (Sunday)
March we will visit sites in and around Athens, one day to include travel by boat to the island of Aegina.
The sequence of the Athens-based trips will be determined at a later time, in concert with special exhibitions, site open hours, etc.
Day One – Eleusis, Vravrona, Sounion by bus.
Day Two – Walking Tour of Athens, Goulandris, Museum of Cycladic Art
Day Three – Boat Excursion to Aegina/Aphaia Public transportation to Peiraeus
Day Four – Daphni, Kaisariani, Kerameikos
March 18, with Section One, visit the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum (Friday)
March 19, visit Agora and Kerameikos. Afternoon, Benaki Museum and free time to work on assignment (q.v.) March 20, return to U.S. (Sunday)
