Presentation on theme: "Have your I.D. out for me to check."— Presentation transcript:

1 Have your I.D. out for me to check.
Pick up a new focus lesson from the front desk. If you did not answer the 3 questions for page 32- please do that now. Have your I.D. out for me to check.

2 Video Clip: Remember our norms!
How does the sperm find, and penetrate the egg?

3 Essential Question How do gametes fuse to create a sexually reproduced organism? Daily Objectives: SWBAT identify the structures and functions of the male and female reproductive system. SWBAT describe the development of a baby in-utero

4 How will we get there? This Class Last Class Labeling (Pg 32)
Midterm Assessment If you were absent you must bring your excused absence note and make up BEFORE the break Page 32: Mapping Your Gametes Use the diagram to map movement Answer Qs 1-3 Notes: Sexual Reproduction (Pg33) Labeling (Pg 32) Baby Book (Pg 34) Home Learning: Winter Break Packet Homework Grade worth 100 pts Will also add up to 10 points to your CGA 1 grade

5 Page 33: Sexual Reproduction
Describe the structure and function of the male and female reproductive systems.

6 Take out a sheet of scratch paper
Engage: Take out a sheet of scratch paper (You can tear from the back of your notebook) Silently write down all of the nicknames you have heard for the human sexual organs.

7 NOW BALL IT UP AND THROW IT IN THE TRASH!
We will not be using these words any more. This is biology, and in science we use words like… Penis Vagina Uterus Say them three times fast and giggle if you need to. After this slide you will be mature young adults. Line garbage cans up in the middle of the room for this activity

8 Let’s take awkward notes…
Take out a clean sheet of paper and set it up like this Page 33 Sexual Reproduction (Humans) Vocabulary Word Notes

9 Male Anatomy The journey of a sperm…

10 It all begins in the testis…
Vocab Notes MALE ANATOMY Testis paired organs, make sperm. Scrotum Houses testis, located outside the body because they need to be cooler

11 Sperm Head contains the DNA, mid-piece which has mitochondria (why?) and a tail (flagella) which allow them to swim.

12 Once the sperm mature… They move to the epididymis where sperm is stored. Eventually the sperm will travel out the vas deferens which is a tube that transport sperm to prostate gland.

13 Sperm Release Seminal vesicle: gland that secretes mucous-like fluid into vas deferens Prostate gland: secretes a fluid to assist the movement of semen

14 Male Reproductive System
Penis- Organ which inserts into female to deliver semen Urethra: tube that transports sperm out of body, also transports urine

15 You should have notes for 9 structures in the male reproductive system

16 Female Anatomy: The Journey of an egg

17 It all begins in the Ovaries…
Vocab Notes FEMALE ANATOMY Ovary paired organs, make and store eggs. Ovum Egg (about (Ova) 400,000 are housed in the ovaries)

18 Movin’ on out… Ovulation process where 1 egg exits ovaries (1/month)
Fallopian Tunnel like Tubes structure that (Oviduct) transports ova to uterus *Site of Fertilization

19 Female Anatomy Uterus Cervix Vagina Houses developing embryo
Muscle which seperates uterus from vagina Vagina Receives penis during intercourse

20 You should have notes on 7 structures for the female reproductive system

21 Stay tuned for what happens when a sperm and egg finally meet!
Take the next 10 minutes to label your diagram on Page 32 according to the notes we’ve just taken

22 Part B- Human Development
Running out of room? Grab an extra page to staple onto this one! Human Reproduction Part B- Human Development

23 Steps of Human Development
Fertilization: The process of a sperm joining an egg. After the 2 haploid nuclei fuse, a single diploid cell is formed called a zygote.

24 Steps of Human Development
Zygote divides: zygote → blastocyst → embryo This was once you!

25 6 days later… Implantation Blastocyst forms and implants inside of the uterus

26 Later Development

27 Mother Child Connection
The developing baby is connected to the mother by the placenta and by the umbilical cord. These are the baby’s source of oxygen, nourishment and excretion.

29 We can help you fold your book! Use color and be CREATIVE!
Page 34 Second Trimester Joints and Bones forming Movement Felt Brain Develops Eyes open Starts to pee You will create a baby book to demonstrate the development that takes place during the 3 trimesters of pregnancy. Use Page 801 in the textbook for facts and diagrams. We can help you fold your book! Use color and be CREATIVE!

30 Don’t forget to grab a Winter Packet!
It will help you prepare for your upcoming CGA 2! It counts as a HW grade, and is due when you return! A completed winter packet will add 10 points to your CGA1 Test score! EVERYONE NEEDS THIS
