2 What is Whaling? It is when you hunt whale’s for the oil and meat
The oil was used to fuel lamps b4 electricity They are also hunted for their baleen which is whale bone.

3 History - The Korean’s have been hunting whales since 5000 BC.
Norwegian’s began whaling about 4,000 years ago. People from the North American coast and the Artic have a long tradition of whaling. Whaling was usually done from canoes or boats using harpoons

4 Who still whales? There are still countries today that continue whaling. Those countries include… Japan Norway Iceland

5 Restrictions & Regulations
In 1932 through 1933 there were attempts made to stop and restrict whale hunting. The International Whaling Commission (IWC) formed in Washington, D.C., by 17 different nations. Helps to limit the number of whales that could be hunted. Other groups such as GreenPeace became very involved in the attempts to stop whaling.

8 Weapons & ships The harpoon was invented by a norwegian named Sven Foyn. It was used because it contains an explosive head which would kill a whale instantly Whale hunter’s also used factory ships because it was safe and made it easier to catch larger whales. Factory ship - a whaling ship equipped to process whale products at sea.
