1 John Williams Sophia Trent

2 Life Born in Long Island, New York, 1932.
Moved to Los Angeles in 1948. Studied composition at UCLA, then later moved back to New York where he studied piano at the Juilliard School of Music. Worked as a jazz pianist; returned to Los Angeles and worked in film studios.

3 Studies While studying, John Williams worked with people such as Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Madame Rosina Lhevinne. In the film industry, he also worked with composers like Bernard Herrmann, Alfred Newman and Franz Waxman. He is considered to be one of the most popular and successful American orchestral composers today.

4 Pieces John Williams has written music for multiple television programs in the 1960s. Famous movies he has composed for include Jaws, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, E.T., Superman, and other classics. He’s also written numerous concert pieces like a symphony, a sinfonietta, concertos for flute, violin, clarinet, trumpet, tuba, and several other instruments. John Williams also composed the NBC News theme and the themes for certain olympic games. Williams has led or appeared as a guest conductor in several major orchestras on tours all over the world — in Japan, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Dallas, and many others.

5 Awards Williams has honorary degrees from fourteen American Universities. He was the first inductee in the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. He has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, seven British Academy Film Awards, two Emmys and twenty-two Grammys. This makes him the second most- nominated person after Walt Disney.
