3. Welcome to Year 11 & 12 Congratulations
Today we shall be looking at these points:
WACE Graduation
ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Ranking)
Academic and behavioural expectations
Assessment policy
Certificate of Excellence
Admission to Medicine and Dentistry

4 weeks – 1st test [for year 12 end of term 4]
All students are subject to a performance review at the end of February. Where necessary, adjustments to course selection will be made when any student fails to achieve at least 65% in any course.

5. SECONDARY GRADUATION: Students who meet the requirements of secondary graduation will be issued with a W.A.C.E. -Western Australian Certificate of Education. This marks the successful completion of 12 years of formal schooling.

6. W A C E HOW IS SECONDARY GRADUATION ACHIEVED?
Complete Literacy and Numeracy tests to demonstrate a minimum standard. NAPLAN Band 8 or OLNA category 3
Achieve an ATAR or complete a Certificate II or higher.
Complete two Year 11 English units and two Year 12 English units.
Complete at least one pair of units from List A & one pair of units from the List B courses in Year 11 and 12.
Complete at least 20 units or equivalents, including a minimum of 10 units [5 COURSES] in Year 12.
ATAR Courses are only completed after WACE exams are sat.
Achieve a minimum of six ‘C’ grades in Year 11 & 8 ‘C’ grades in four pairs of Year 12 units or equivalents. Altogether 14 ‘C’ grades are required for WACE graduation.
Note: To achieve an ATAR students are required to complete a minimum of four ATAR Year 12 courses and must sit the WACE exam to be qualified for this course.

7. Please note that
students must attend and genuinely attempt all WACE examinations for all ATAR courses. Missing any WACE exam will cause the course to be withdrawn. The course will not be considered as one of he five compulsory course to achieve WACE graduation, WASSA or university entry.
If a student missed a WACE exam for any genuine reason, the student must complete a misadventure form available from school/SCSA and submit to SCSA immediately to ensure that the school mark is considered as WACE mark and the course will not be withdrawn.
If a misadventure form is not submitted immediately, that course will definitely be withdrawn and the student will not be eligible for WACE graduation, WASSA and the universities will not offer any place in any course to the student if that course is one of the five ATAR courses.
It is student’s responsibility to complete the misadventure form and the school will not be liable for this. School can help if needed.

8. WACE COURSES GENERAL COURSES: ATAR COURSES: PRE-REQUISITES
Courses with school based tests/exams and include externally set exams as well. These courses will typically be based on stage 1 and 2 course units with modification.

9. VET UNIT EQUIVALENCE
Of the 20 units required for a WACE, up to a maximum of four Year 11 units and four Year 12 units may be substituted by VET qualifications.

10. University Entrance
At the end of Year 12, the best four ATAR course results
(SBA + WACE exam 50/50 combined) will be used by TISC to calculate your TEA (Tertiary Entrance Aggregate).
The TEA will be used to award you with an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank).

Students wishing to study Medicine/dentistry at UWA need to sit UMAT & complete a three-year undergraduate Science Providing the score is above level 5.5 (equates to 75%)
The student (if no UMAT) sit for the GAMSAT. (Graduate Australian Medicine Admissions Test).
There then follows a further four years of study.

14. Sickness/misadventure Form
If students miss a Scheduled Assessment Task (exams, tests, in class investigation, in class essay, oral presentation, etc.), they should only be given the opportunity to complete that assessment or a similar task and gain credit if the student’s absence is explained by the following:

Assessment Policy
Student will sit for the assessment task on the day of return to the school. Otherwise, there will not be any opportunity of sitting for the missed task.
Where a student submits an assignment task late either with no satisfactory explanation or without prior agreement with the teacher, then a penalty of 10% per day (including weekends) will apply.

15. Behavioural Expectations
All Yr 11 and 12 students are expected to behave appropriately. There will be consequences of suspension and even expulsion with repeated offence if any student
Misbehave, disruptive or disrespectful to teachers
Consistently late in class/assembly without any reason
Consistently absent when there is an assessment task scheduled
Found outside class room or study room without permission
