1. Theory vs. Law Theory- Provides a general explanation for scientific observations that is consistent with known facts. (i.e. Einstein’s theory of Relativity) Law- This is a rule that correctly describes a natural phenomenon, must be proven correct every time. (i.e. Gravity, law of conservation of energy, mass and momentum)

2. Mystery of Light Light
6
2. Mystery of light White light/ Sunlight passing through a prism is split into 7 colors (ROY G BIV) Light travels in waves, each color has a different wavelength. Red is longest and violet is shortest.

Doppler Effect video Doppler Effect

3. Doppler Effect When a light source is moving toward an observer, the wavelength of light is compressed and are shortened Spectral lines shift toward shorter wavelengths (Blue Shift) When a light source is moving away from an observer, the wavelength of light expands and are lengthened. Spectral lines shift toward longer wavelengths (Red shifted)

4. Red Shift Using a spectroscope scientist can determine which elements are present in stars. (92% H2, 8% He) When doing this they found most spectrums of the stars were red shifted. Most galaxies were moving away from earth. Degree of red shift determines how fast it is moving, most distant, fastest Doppler Shift

5. Big Bang Theory Billions of years ago all matter and energy in universe was compressed into small volume 17 billion years ago sudden event sent all matter and energy outward Big bang theory
