Our mission is to help all students be successful in both their career and continued education. Our mission is to help all students be successful in both their career and continued education.

2 What is CTC? What is CTC? Focuses on academics including literacy, math and science applied to CTC career areas. All instruction is centered on one particular area or program of study. High expectations for all students - College level instruction - Career focused learning - Academic emphasis - Professional learning and work ethic skills (21st Century Skills) We are preparing students to be successful as they graduate and advance to post secondary education or an immediate career opportunity.

3 Goals for Students Goals for Students
College Readiness – Our advisory committees recommend and research has proven that our students should be ready for college when they graduate high school. A college entrance exam, COMPASS, is given to all students enrolled at CTC. Technical Proficiency – Each student will take a course specific assessment related to the career before they finish their studies at CTC. The scores will rank them nationally with other Career and Technical students. Information about both assessments is found in your packet on the left side. GOAL #2

Placement of our graduates college, advanced training, related career employment, or military (80.9% success rate over 5 year period) Many experiences are designed to assist in this process including college nights and career fairs.

5 Communication tools between CTC and Parents
Website for information – updated by CTC staff, our goal is to have current information all the time. - Go to “Select A School” then “Career and Technology Center” Parent Internet Viewer Login online to see your students grades and attendance You can set up PIV where you will receive alerts if your student is absent or his/her grade drops below a certain level. School Messenger Calls every time a student is marked absent. If you know your student is absent please contact CTC at or contact Lisa Stewart via (may use website contact). Director may send a mass call to all parents for special event or circumstances Personal s and phone calls to and from CTC staff. PLEASE call or us with concerns or pertinent information regarding your student, the class, or the school.

Several key pieces of information – Right Side of Packet Items to turn in with contact information and parent & student signatures Please turn in four items Items maybe turned in tonight to CTC instructor or by Thursday, August 23rd. We can get your student’s signature at school. Feel free to take these home and read through information and have your student turn in the 23rd. Teachers will go over the student handbook in class during the first days of school.

12 Attendance, Attendance, Attendance!
ATTENDANCE EQUALS SUCCESS!!! Students are expected to meet 94% or better attendance All absences are … absences! with the exception of school related activities If a student misses more than 10 days they may be removed or placed on a probationary contract. Students are expected to attend CTC according to the CTC Calendar provided not their sending school calendar. Students are counted absent if CTC is in session and the sending school is not in session if a bus is provided. A bus is provided from sending schools in most cases with only a few exceptions when CTC has school and other sending schools do not. If a bus is not provided, sending school students are not counted absent.

13 Time For Time (TFT) Time For Time (TFT)
TFT attempts to recover lost class time TFT may be used to reduce absences incurred Outside of class time Monday – Thursday until 4:30 or by appointment Parents must call CTC within 48 hours of absence TFT will only be applied to parent called in absences.

14 Student Driving Procedures
Buses are provided for CTC students. Occasions occur when a student may need to drive (school events, doctors appointments, work on cars, etc.) You must apply for a pre-arranged driving pass. If a student misses the bus, the parent/guardian needs to contact the *sending school administration or student needs to see sending school administrator prior to driving to CTC. DO NOT DRIVE TO CTC WITHOUT GETTING PROPER APPROVAL *sending school – your high school

15 Student Driving Procedures continued
Auto Students may work on their vehicles if: Students have prior approval to drive Must be in good standing in regards to grades, attendance and discipline – this is a privilege. Select dates or opportunities throughout the school year. Driving pass required (even for Fort Osage Students) Students cannot bring another student in their vehicle without permission from all parents, sending school administration and CTC administration Consequences include suspension and loss of driving privileges for period of time or remainder of the year.

16 DRESS FOR SUCCESS! Dress Expectations Dress Expectations
Hats may be worn before the tardy bell and after the dismissal bell only. Consequences apply for inappropriate use/Insubordination. Clothing should cover the body so that it is not considered a distraction or severely inappropriate. Clothing should be worn so that all undergarments are not visible. Proper footwear must be worn in designated areas and may be at the discretion of the instructor. An unprofessional or inappropriate appearance may affect the individual’s performance or others around them. DRESS FOR SUCCESS!

17 Electronic Devices Electronic Devices
May be used in certain areas and time slots Before tardy bell and after dismissal bell these devices may be used During Break while in break area or other common areas Electronic devices must be put away while in class. Headphones may be worn in hallway, break area and in classroom when situation and instructor allow.

20 English IV Opportunity
Available for Sending School Students Student earns ½ English credit per year The course is online through a system called Moodle You will have a chance to enroll in the fall

21 Student Assessments COMPASS TSA College Placement Exam for MCC English
Reading Math Pre & Post-test Remediation as needed Score is valid for 2 years Technical test specific to program At or above national average/cut score Pre & Post-test in most programs
