11th year of teaching Taught middle school for 5 year in Onslow County (ELA and SS) Elementary AIG Specialist in Onslow County for 3 years 2 years teaching Elementary in VA License in Gifted Education from Western Carolina University

What does it mean to be AIG?
Students have shown high potential in 3 of 4 possible areas. Aptitude Achievement Motivation Performance Once students are then identified as AIG they will remain AIG throughout their school career

AIG Specialist Role Support teachers to create a more rigorous and challenging curriculum to meet students’ needs. Support individual students who are struggling with schoolwork, stress, perfection, or underachieving, etc. Share opportunities found both inside and outside of the school to enhance students’ love of learning and extend the classroom.

Governors School Two campuses. One vision. Over fifty years of experience. Governor’s School East Meredith College, Raleigh Governor’s School West Salem College, Winston-Salem A five and a half week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school students. Open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas Integrates academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. Students get to select area of focus Informational meeting held in Fall 2017

North Carolina School of Science and Math
A public high school where talented students realize their potential and find their niche Focus on Science, Math and STEM Both residential and online options For 11th and 12th graders

Summer Ventures Offered through the North Carolina School of Science and Math Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics is a no- cost, state-funded program for academically talented North Carolina students who aspire for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As a rising high school junior or senior, you live on a college campus for four weeks in the summer and conduct research around topics of your interest — while enjoying the company of like-minded peers.

CDM/Honors/AP CDM- Credit by Demonstrated Mastery
Here at Dixon High School we have several options for our AIG students which include CDM- Credit by Demonstrated Mastery CDM allows students to show deep understanding of content and processes in high school courses. Understanding will be shown through a multi-phase process which will include an examination and a product. Students who demonstrate mastery will receive course credit, but not grade points. This process takes place over the summer More information can be found at :

CDM/Honors/AP Honors Courses AP-Advance Placement Courses
Honors courses are courses which differ qualitatively and quantitatively from standard level courses. For this additional expectation, students receive a weighted credit AP-Advance Placement Courses AP Courses offer college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations
