Final Days Pershing places American troops under French command and turns the tide of war. In late summer of 1918, Allied troops conduct a major offensive all along the Western Front and push deep into German held territory. German civilians revolt demanding food German soldiers were no longer willing to fight In October the German chancellor asks Wilson for a cease fire—surrender. Armistice signed on November 11, 1918

The Terms of Peace

The Fourteen Points Wilson develops the Fourteen Points as a just solution for peace. The final point established a League of Nations designed to prevent offensive wars in the future. American public supported the points; Allies not enthusiastic; Germans rejected. Wilson’s plan for peace went through several changes at the Paris Peace Conference Republicans objected to Article 10 because it would drag the US into more foreign wars, so U.S. does not join the League of Nations

Peace and Versailles Peace conference opened on January 18.
Dominated by “Big Four”. Allied leaders demanded “reparations”. Allies divided up German colonies. Germany disarmed and forced to admit fault. League of Nations created.
