Oceanography The study of the earth's oceans and their interlinked ecosystems , geological, chemical and physical processes.
2
Origin of Oceans As volcanoes erupted, they spewed lava, ash, water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Scientists hypothesize that about 4 billion years ago, water vapor accumulated in Earth’s atmosphere. After millions of years, it cooled enough to condense into storm clouds Torrential rains began to fall and fill basins, which eventually joined to form oceans.
3
Origin of Oceans About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. The oceans hold 97% of Earth’s water. About 3% of Earth’s water is fresh water.
