3
Cardiovascular System
Includes your heart, blood and vessels (Arteries &Veins) Bring Oxygen and Nutrients to the body and removes waste.
4
HEART Made of cardiac muscle Right atrium Left atrium Right ventricle
These are at the top of the heart and contract together Right ventricle Left ventricle These are at the bottom of the heart and contract together
5
Heart Valves – one way and separate the atrium from ventricle to prevent blood backflow The wall separates the two sides of the heart to prevent OXYGENATED blood from mixing with deoxygenated blood.
6
Types of Circulation Coronary – to and from the heart
Pulmonary – to and from lungs Systemic – to and from the body
7
Blood vessels Artery – (Oxygenated) takes blood away from heart (red)
Vein – (Deoxygenated) takes blood to the heart. (blue) Capillaries – (one cell) microscopic vessels where arteries and veins meet (purple)
8
Parts of Blood White blood cells – fights infection
Red blood cells – carry oxygen (hemoglobin) Platelets – clot the blood Plasma – nutrients and minerals
