1 Turn in Homeostasis Worksheet!
Be in Seats when the bell rings for Grudgeball, or you’ll get a detention!

2 Grudgeball Rules of the game: Each table takes a turn
When it is your turn, your table gets to answer the question on the board Only one table can answer at a time If the table answers correctly, it becomes the next table’s turn If the table answers incorrectly, ANY other table can steal the question by raising their hand and answering correctly

3 Grudgeball Scoring: Lowest points WINS, highest points LOSES.
During your turn, if you answer correctly, your table gets to give one X to any another table’s scoreboard, or take an X away from your table. You ALSO get to shoot the grudgeball into the basket for an additional 2 or 3 X’s depending on which line you shoot from. You can only shoot once per turn.

4 Grudgeball Scoring: If you miss the question, any other table can STEAL the question. Tables will be allowed to continue to answer until someone gets it right or all tables have attempted. If you successfully STEAL the question, you get to remove one X from your scoreboard.

6 Place the following structures in order from smallest to largest:
Small Intestines Columnar Epithelial Cell Epithelial Tissue Carbon Protein Digestive System Little Johnny 5 3 4 1 2 6 7

7 Which type of tissue supports (bone), protects (bone), insulates (fat), and transports materials (blood)? Connective Tissue

8 Which organ is responsible for maintaining water balance and the absorption of Vitamin K produced by bacteria during digestion? Large Intestines

9 Stomata:Plants :: _________:Animals
Alveoli

10 Which system is being described below:
Blood is filtered by the kidneys. Wastes, such as urea, and excess water are transported down the ureter tubes to the bladder. The waste is stored in the bladder until released through the urethra. Excretory System

11 Name the smallest blood vessel that forms a web-like network around the alveoli to exchange gasses.
Capillary

12 Which muscular structure contracts to allow lungs to expand when you inhale, and relaxes to force air out of your lungs when you exhale ? Diaphragm

13 The body’s 1st Line of Defense involves which system?
Integumentary

14 Negative Feedback The osmoregulation process is shown below:
This process is an example of ______________________.

15 Hormones are classified as which biomolecule?
Lipids

16 ______________ system is made up of T-Cells and Cytotoxic Natural Killer cells to aid in the body’s 2nd and 3rd Line of Defenses. Immune

17 What two human systems work together to provide body cells with a constant supply of oxygen while removing carbon dioxide waste products? Circulatory & Respiratory

18 Give an example of a structure that functions at the same organizational level as the kidney in the human excretory system. Any organ!

19 What is the name of the smooth muscle contractions that push food down the esophagus and through the intestines? Peristalsis

20 Quick, short breaths cause the level of carbon dioxide in the blood to increase. The excess carbon dioxide reacts with water and produces carbonic acid. The carbonic acid causes the blood pH to become more acidic. When the blood pH becomes too acidic, chemoreceptors in the brain instruct the body to react and maintain homeostasis in blood pH. How will the body respond to bring the blood pH back to normal levels? Long, deep, slow breaths

21 After eating a large plate of spaghetti, the glucose in a person’s blood stream will increase. The pancreas will release insulin to convert the glucose into glycogen for storage until blood glucose levels are back to normal. This is an example of the body maintaining ______________. Homeostasis

22 Describe how this structure sends and receives messages.
Electrical Impulses

23 How does the circulatory system interact with the skeletal system to protect the body against pathogen? Skeletal system produces white blood cells, circulatory system transports white blood cells.

24 How does the nervous system interact with the muscular system to produce movement?
The nervous systems sends electrical impulses to stimulate the muscles to contract or relax.

25 Puberty begins when the hypothalamus signals the pituitary to release follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). During this process, what are the primary body systems that are interacting? (HINT: 3 Systems) Reproductive, Endocrine, Nervous

26 Part of the complex biochemical pathway of blood clotting is the production of an enzyme that forms the matrix of the blood clot. This has a self-catalytic, or self-accelerating effect, so that once the clotting process begins, it runs faster and faster until, ideally, bleeding stops. This is an example of _____________ feedback Positive

27 Name the 3 types of muscle tissue
Name the 3 types of muscle tissue. (HINT: one is voluntary, two are involuntary.) Skeletal, Smooth, Cardiac

28 Name the master gland that controls around 9 other glands of the endocrine system.
Pituitary

29 Describe how the circulatory and digestive systems work together for nutrient absorption. Be sure to include organs where this takes place! Nutrients are absorbed from the small intestines into the blood stream.

30 How do hormones travel from glands to target cells?
Blood Stream/Circulatory System

31 Describe which systems are involved in the production and transport of adrenaline, and the systems involved in all physiological responses. Endocrine, Nervous, circulatory, respiratory
