To transport oxygen, nutrients, wastes, and other substances throughout the body.
3
3 Main Parts of the Circulatory System
Blood Cells Blood Vessels The Heart
4
Blood Cells: Things that make up the blood.
Red Blood Cells: carry Oxygen (no nucleus) White Blood Cells: fight infection Platelets: Clot Blood Plasma: Liquid component
5
Blood Vessels: Things that carry the blood.
Arteries: carry blood away from the heart. Usually have Oxygen (not in pulmonary) Veins: carry blood toward the heart. Usually don’t have Oxygen (not in pulmonary) Valves prevent backflow Capillaries: materials are exchanged
6
Valves in Veins

Types of Circulation Pulmonary Circulation: Systemic Circulation:
Pulmonary = Lungs Pulmonary Circulation: Right side of the Heart No Oxygen, a lot of Carbon Dioxide in Blood Takes blood from Heart to Lungs Systemic Circulation: Left side of the Heart A lot of Oxygen, no Carbon Dioxide in Blood Takes blood from Heart to rest of body
