SCHOOL BY-LAWS/PURPOSE OF SHAC
Article II: Responsibilities To hold regular meetings (4) To provide advice and recommendations prior to decisions pertaining to a coordinated school health program designed to prevent obesity, heart disease, and type II diabetes through coordination of: Health Education, Physical Education, Nutritional Services, Parental Involvement, Staff Wellness, Environmental Health, Mental/Emotional Wellness, and Health Services. To provide a written annual report to the Board of Trustees each year.

Article III: Meetings 4 regular meetings a year
Quorum: No action or voting may take place without a quorum (majority of current membership) Attendance: Monitored by the Chairs Decision-Making: By consensus. If a clear consensus cannot be obtained members shall reach a decision by majority vote. Agendas: Agendas shall be provided for all SHAC Meetings as determined by the Chair, Committee, and Coordinator

Article IV: Membership
Parents must live within the district and must be a custodial parent of a student currently enrolled in the district. The majority of the SHAC will consist of parents of students

Article V: Officers and Terms of Service
Two years Terms will be staggered to maintain continuity on the SHAC Parents and community members will serve a two-year appointment Campus level staff and students shall serve a one-year term. Members may serve multiple terms.

Article VII: Committee
There will be one standing committee for each of the following substantive areas: Nutrition/Food Service: Diana Quintanilla Physical Education and Activity/Health Education: Roy Alaniz Counseling/Mental/Social Health: Maria Elena Betancourt-Delgado Student Health Services: Rosa Maria Campos Parent and Community Involvement: Tomas Tamez Staff Health Promotion: Jose V. Campos

Article VIII: Coordinator
Ensuring that adequate facility arrangements and staff support are secured for all meetings. Provide members and support staff with agenda and background materials prior to meetings. Serve as custodian of all SHAC records Promote awareness of the SHAC Develop the submission of SHAC’s annual report Provide other assistance as requested

GOALS FOR SCHOOL YEAR Collaborate between City Officials, community members and school district to form partnerships that promote wellness, physical activity, healthy eating and recreational activities of students.

Lunch will always be provided.
MEETING DATES FOR THE YEAR DATES (all meetings are on Thursdays): September 18, 2014 November 20, 2014 February 19, 2015 April 16, 2015 TIME: 12:30 p.m. LOCATION: September: Academics Department Training Center All other meetings will be held at the Donna ISD Staff Development/Board Room Lunch will always be provided.
