2 The Beginning Born in Kutama, Southern Rhodesia, February 21 1924.
Born into the Shona ethnic group. Had a job in teaching. Member of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU). Held in detention for nationalist activities. For ten years ( ). Is Roman Catholic.                                       

3 Rise to Power Founded the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) after serving his time and entering exile. Led guerrilla forces against Ian Smith (Prime Minister of the British colony of South Rhodesia) Built a coalition with the ZAPU to overthrowing Smith. Attacks the ZAPU afterwards because they had weapon caches in ZAPU-supporting homes. Coalition collapses, Mugabe and ZANU rise to power.

4 Ideology A fighter for political rhetoric.
Later in life, he didn't believe in human rights or amnesty. Took land from white farmers. Abused his people. Wanted a one party state and no freedom of press. When first elected he stood for peace and social development with the white minority. Stood for the black majority.

5 Wars and Genocide Part of the Rhodesian Bush War (AKA Zimbabwe Libesatian Struggle). Bush War was a civil war that lasted from July 1964 to 1979. Began a Matabele land geoncde.

6 Impact on the People and the World
Overall was a tyrant to the Zimbabwe people. A racist to the white minority. Killed his opponent during an election. European Union bans him from traveling to Europe. (Unless there is a UN meeting) The United States also forbids him to come to America. (Again, unless there is a UN meeting) Western Countries do not like him since he wishes to undermine democracy in Zimbabwe.
