Battle was hard for both sides- realized that war would not end soon

9. Atlanta The main railroad center of the South
Stone Mountain is a Civil war memorial. Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, & Jefferson Davis are carved on the mountain.

10. March to the Sea
Sherman and army destroyed everything from Atlanta to Savannah.
Burned farmland
Stole food
Wrecked railroad tracks

11. End of war
Both sides met near Richmond and fought for almost a year there.
Confederacy ran out of supplies and food
Confederacy surrendered at the Appomattox
