Earliest known set of laws Made by Hammurabi during his reign in Babylon Invented around 1780 B.C.E.

Provisions in the Code of Hammurabi
“If a member of the elite strikes the cheek of a member of the elite, he will be flogged in public with 60 strikes of an ox-whip” “If a builder builds a house for a man, and the house collapses and causes the death of the owners son, then the builders son shall be put to death” “If a son strikes his father, then the sons hand shall be cut off” “If an adopted son say to his adoptive parents ‘you are not my parents’ then his tongue shall be cut off”
