Causes of WWI Germany and Austria-Hungary wanted to increase the size of their empires Each country was building up its supply of weapons Countries began to form alliances France, Russia and Great Britain formed the Triple Entente Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary formed the Triple Alliance

Causes In 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia by Serbians. Because of this Austria-Hungary invades Serbia

Causes Russia aids Serbia, so Germany declares war on Russia.
France declares war on Germany Germany attacks Belgium Great Britain enters the war to help France and Belgium

Causes The United States joins the war against Germany in 1917 which gives the Allied powers fresh troops and weapons World War ends in 1918, Allied Powers Win

Results of World War I Treaty of Versailles – written by the Allied Powers Germany had to give up a territory to France, Great Britain, Belgium, Denmark and Poland
