Explore the healthcare system of China. The healthcare system reform in China has gone through several phases since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in The healthcare system of China has been prized by the World Health Organization for its universal health insurance coverage for 1.3 billion Chinese people. The course provides students critical thinking skills focusing on understanding how China could provide a universal coverage for an enormous population, but the U.S. cannot. In addition, students will be exposed to the Chinese culture that has significant influence on China’s healthcare philosophy and its delivery system.

This course utilizes a combination of instructional modes including interactive lectures and discussions, field trips and visits to healthcare facilities and historical/cultural sites, text and topic reading, and exchange with Chinese scholars and practitioners.

Day 6: Visit first affiliated hospital of GDPU, Guangdong Provinvial Rehabilitation hospital, Chen Liji Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum, lecture on history and evolution of Chinese healthcare system – Chinse traditional medicine
Day 7: GDPU community health center, Provincial CDC, night tour Pearl River
Day 8: Depart Guangzhou for Beijing, lecture on eveolution of Chinese healthcare system – era of economic reform
Day 9: Beijing capital of China - visit Tian’anmen Square, Forbidden City, Beijing traditional Hutong Tour
Day 10: Beijing political center - visit the Great Wall, Ming Tombs, national stadium, national aquatics center
Day 11: Beijing health center – visit Beijing University International Hospital, lecture on China’s healthcare system today, visit Summer Palace, attend acrobats performance
