Projection show that between 2000 and 2020, road traffic deaths will decline by 30%in high income countries, but will increase substantially in low and middle income countries. In 2002, it was estimated that 1.2 million people per year lost their lives due to road crashes and an estimated 20 to 50 million people per year are injured due to road crashes.
