Sit in your assigned seat, put your behavior card on your desk, and quietly write down the following standard: SS7G8 – The student will describe the diverse cultures of the people who live in Southwest Asia (Middle East)

Bell-Ringer Take your time and respond to the following question in your notebook in complete sentences: Takis are becoming a popular snack here in the United States and McDonald’s is the biggest fast food chain in the world. How do you think things from one culture/place are able to get popular in another country?

Reading – “Cultural Diffusion”
During the reading, I want you to focus on the following questions: 1.) Using the reading, what do you believe “cultural diffusion” is? 2.) What are some examples of “cultural diffusion” from the reading? 3.) How has “cultural diffusion” shaped the world we live in today?

Opening Cultural Diffusion – The exchange of ideas or products between cultures. While watching the video, write down as many examples of cultural diffusion as you can find:

Trade The action of buying and selling goods and services.
Similar words - business, barter, dealing, commerce.

Conquest The act of taking over another country/region through war or fighting. Similar words - subjugation, defeat, mastery, victory.

Migration The act of going from one country, region, or place to another. Similar words – move, settle, relocate

Technology The specific methods, materials, and devices used to solve practical problems. Similar words – electronics, machinery.

Struggle Time How has cultural diffusion impacted my life? How would my life be different without it?

Work Session 1.) Brainstorm a list of examples of cultural diffusion that you see on a daily basis (minimum of 7 things) 2.) Draw a picture of those things 3.) Explain whether you believe each example is a result of spread through technology, trade, conquest, foreign interaction, study, migration, or a mixture (what is the mixture?)

Closing 1.) What is something from the Middle East that has been shared in the United States through cultural diffusion? 2.) Presentations of 1 persons “cultural diffusions”
