3 Subject and verb agreement
When subjects are joined by or, nor, either/or, or neither nor, the verb agrees with the subject that is closer to it Either rain showers or sleet is expected tomorrow. Neither sleet nor rain showers are expected tomorrow. Wind or rising temperatures dispel fog. Rising temperatures or wind dispels fog.

4 Subject and verb agreement
The agreement of a verb with its subject is not changed by any interrupting words. A bouquet of roses was given to the skater. The gold medal winner, along with her teammates, was called back to the ice. Figure skating at the modern Olympics is one popular event.

5 Subject and verb agreement
The subject and the verb of an inverted sentence must agree in number. In Europe were the locations of many of the battles in World War II. There was much tension remaining in Europe after World War II. At the core of the fighting were many factors.

6 Subject and verb agreement
A verb must agree in number with an indefinite pronoun used as a subject. Each of you is needed to train the dogs. Everyone in the room owns a dog Several of the dogs have been adopted.

7 Subject and verb agreement
The verb form for the indefinite pronouns all, any, most, none, and some is determined by the object of the prepositional phrase that follows the pronoun. Most of the training has been effective. Most of the dogs have been trained. None of the owners were disappointed. None of the money is due until after the training.

8 Use a singular pronoun if the antecedent is a singular indefinite pronoun.
Each of the girls had her bike painted a different color. No one should ride his or her bike into the street without checking for traffic first. Everyone must keep his or her bike locked up. One of our local organizations put up fliers about its bicycle races. Neither of my brothers has his bike ready for the race.

9 Pronoun agreement If two or more singular antecedents are joined by or, nor, either/or or neither/nor, use a singular pronoun to refer to them. Either Maria or Lacey will play her clarinet solo next. Neither Paul nor Joseph wants to give his presentation.

10 Pronoun agreement If two or more singular antecedents are joined by and or both/and, use a plural pronoun to refer to them. Tricia and Max will sing their songs. Both Tricia and Max will sing their songs.
