Web.com – Prophix story Operating since: Early 1980s
Head office: Jacksonville, Florida Annual revenue: > $400 million Number of employees: 1,900 G/L or ERP: Microsoft Dynamics GP Company website: Company background: Web.com Group, Inc. provides a full range of Internet services to small businesses to help them compete and succeed online. Web.com is a global domain registrar and further meets the needs of small businesses anywhere along their lifecycle with affordable, subscription-based solutions including website design and management, search engine optimization, online marketing campaigns, local sales leads, social media, mobile products, eCommerce solutions, and call center services. Business problems that lead to evaluating CPM, adopting Prophix: Built their budgets and forecasts in Excel. Had no processes. Different formats, values, levels of detail and accuracy each time they went through the budget cycle and built a forecast. Wanted to conduct budgeting by different product lines. Data would come from 9 different sources. None of these are SQL-based or ODBC-based. They would essentially dump all of their data into Excel and improvise from there to build their budgets or forecasts.

Web.com – Prophix story Business problems that lead to evaluating CPM, adopting Prophix: Data integrity issues – Numbers are not always visible to employees. Archiving their data for prior month’s forecasting. Personnel Planning at the employee level – Web.com was forecasting/budgeting personnel expense based on a % of total salary expense. They wish to move towards more of a bottom-up budgeting. Within their personnel model in Excel, they would plan by employee position. They had no process or set methods, which meant they ignored the typical amount of taxes subtracted relative to each role. Their Prophix solution: Working with Prophix forced them to develop structured processes and vet them with us to see if it would work and make sense for their business. For this reason, they leaned more on consulting than other companies would. Immediately prior to implementation they acquired another company, and folded this new subsidiary into their processes. Prophix pulls data from great plains for their employees to slice and dice the same set of data. Exporting out their current values and importing the data into an archive version allows web.com the flexibility of changing their calculation logic while preserving their monthly forecast in a saved archive. Personnel planning at the employee level offered by DPM, allows web.com to track employee expense at the employee level and aggregate up into the entire salary expense value.
