Where to from here…..
2
Session Objectives Reinforce expectations following workshop
Discuss Auditing role Discuss how to train other auditors Know how to access HHA resources Know how to access support from HHA
3
Where To From Here? Workshop coordinator will be in contact
All results are sent to you individually DON’T PANIC! Workshop participants who do not achieve (the very high) 90% pass rate will receive follow up training & validation All validated Gold Standard auditors will be notified All attendees receive a Certificate either of Achievement or of Attendance which counts towards CPD points We will contact participants within 1 – 2 weeks. Results are ed directly & confidentially to each participant on the address provided 90% is a high pass rate, however, every single validated GS auditor requires this mark, this ensures that everyone who is collecting data is seeing the 5 moments in the same way. Remember as we mentioned earlier the data will be used widely by CEO”s, ACSQHC and politicians Follow up & further validation will be dependent on each individual participant, if the required validation level is not gained & will be detailed in the you receive with your results
4
Practice, Practice, Practice
Practice until you are familiar and comfortable with The 5 Moments The audit tool – mobile data collection or paper Any auditing situation that may occur on the wards Then progress to your specialty wards eg.ICU, dialysis, day oncology Database entry Participants should practice within 1 – 2 weeks of completing workshop, even if only for 20mins It is important that auditors feel comfortable with the 5 Moments & auditing before audit period, as they are likely to get questions from staff when auditing & when feeding back results
5
Auditors Role in an established program
Discuss with your HH coordinator: Giving you a login to HHCApp HHA only provide logins to coordinators or new facilities Which wards you will audit What is your auditing schedule Weekly, monthly, 8 weeks prior to due date Will you provide HH education Data entry – encourage use of mobile data collection
6
Getting Started in a New Facility
Once you are confirmed as a GSA: Contact HHA for setup in HHCApp Design a work plan for program implementation HH team Baseline audit Education/product placement Reaudit Call HHA anytime for assistance
7
Choosing New Auditors Once you have established the Program structure for your facility, you may find that more auditors are required It will depend on the type of facility you work in, you may wish to include: Link nurses Other hospital staff e.g. Allied health, project people People with a Passion for HH Share the auditing with neighbouring hospitals Clinical staff on light duties/work care placement -It is impossible for one person to run the entire program in some facilities -Remember this is not an Infection Control problem it’s a health service problem -Facilities often train up a number of additional auditors to assist not only with the auditing, but these staff will also be able to educate staff in their own area at all times of the day & night, as well as weekend shifts
8
Locally Trained Auditors
As the Gold Standard Auditor at your facility you can train others to become general auditors You are responsible to register anyone you train locally on the HHA website ( Your training sessions must include the mandatory sessions mentioned in the pathways document Minimum 5 hrs to cover all Training can take place over a full day, or in half days, or in shorter blocks HHA recommend you don’t rush sessions and limit numbers
9

Caveats for Training Auditors
The people that you teach cannot teach others If they are required to then they need to attend a HHA run workshop You are responsible for giving regular updates to those that you train Pass on updates from HHA Ensure they follow Annual Auditor Validation Run refresher session annually including auditing together (once an audit period is ideal) Keep in regular contact with HHA & the HHA website
12
Annual Auditor Validation
All auditors – gold standard & general Potential for auditing skill fade Potentially jeopardize the validity of hand hygiene compliance (HHC) data Maintain education standards Keep abreast of any changes that may have occurred to auditing processes or collection procedures Overall to maintain the validity of data
13
Annual Auditor Validation
Annual collection of a minimum moments Can be achieved either on wards or via DVD Annual completion of auditor online learning package It’s not easy so allow time to complete it Under consideration You may not be able to submit data if not validated
