London Group conference October 2017 Rocky Harris Defra, UK

Round table on state of play on EEA
10 countries responded to the questionnaire so far (Thank you to Australia (Wentworth Group), Canada, Estonia, Finland, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, UK) Contributions still welcome! General position: Exploratory work in most countries, either for specific habitats, sub- national areas or services Only two countries with established national programme of work covering all the main types of accounts Much more testing needed!

Summary of survey results (1)
Extent accounts Widely implemented, though sometimes just for forests and wetlands Would be worth reviewing classifications used so far, also how assets have been delineated in practice Condition accounts Mainly developed only for freshwater ecosystems, somewhat more limited implementation for terrestrial habitats See paper by Vardon and Harris for wider review of practices to date Accounts for ecosystem services in physical terms Only half the respondents have so far attempted accounts Main emphasis on provisioning services, otherwise mainly carbon capture and recreation
