2. ***UNRESTRICTED SUBMARINE WARFARE- German policy of using submarines (U-boats) to sink any ship on the Atlantic, military or not, neutral or not. Tried to break the BIRITISH BLOCKADE which stopped all ships so Germany would not get supplies.
Germany sinks several ships with Americans aboard including the LUSITANIA a British passenger liner killed including 124 Americans.

3. ZIMMMERMAN TELEGRAM- German foreign minister Zimmerman sent a telegram to Mexico trying to get Mexico into war and to attack the U.S.
Germany promises to get all the territory back previously lost to the U. S. once the central powers win.
Telegram is intercepted by British CRYPTOGRAPHERS who decoded the message and warn the U.S.
