1 Inner Brain Structures

2 Cerebellum Functions: coordination, balance

3 Brainstem Functions: most basic functions of life (reflexes, breathing, heart rate, sleep), connects the brain to the rest of the body through spinal cord

4 The Limbic System

5 Thalamus (part of Limbic System)
Functions: relaying of sensory and motor signals, consciousness, alertness

6 Hypothalamus (part of Limbic System)
Functions: body temperature, hunger, sexual behavior, thirst, fatigue

7 Hippocampus (part of Limbic System)
Functions: formation of memory, spatial navigation

8

9 Cognitive Map

10 Amygdala (part of Limbic System)
Functions: negative emotions (particularly fear, rage, and violence)

11 Brain Diagram Label the 11 structures we have learned Use color!

12 Exit Pass Write the following: One strength you have so far
One weakness you have so far One thing you want to learn more about

13 Brain Structure Practice
With your group, you must represent each structure we have covered (11 total) One color = cerebral cortex (divide into structures with lines) One color = inner structures/corpus callosum Check your brain in with me when completed!

14

15 Function Scenarios On a separate sheet of paper, write example scenarios for at least one function of each structure (skipping the corpus callosum) to have 20 examples total (will use some twice) Include the answer

16 Brain Functions Diagram
Draw images/symbols to represent the functions of each structure (11 total) Label each structure USE COLOR to at least outline

17 Practice—half sheet Label each structure Provide ONE (1) function for each structure
