28 IS15 Instrument System IS15 as NMEA repeater(s)
Use IS15 instruments as repeater to any equipment that has NMEA output Save space and installation cost with IS15 instruments as repeater to a Simrad Navstation Add more repeaters whenever your customers need them

29 IS15 Instrument System Single IS15 NMEA repeater
Cut Roblink cable in two halves Extend cables using twisted pair on the NMEA cable Access the installation menu and turn off the Roblink

30 IS15 Instrument System IS15 as repeaters using Roblink Power Cable

31 IS15 Instrument System IS15 as repeaters using IS15 Power supply

32 IS15 Instrument System

33 IS15 Instrument System In systems with 9-15 instruments, please observe: Avoid mounting a main system head and a repeater head adjacent - a minor delay in response will be observed on the repeater Start with the main system when commissioning Repeat the procedure on the repeater system Perform calibrations on the main system and enter the calibration values into the repeater system Normal operational settings, e.g. alarms, damping and illumination must also be set on the repeater system You can only turn the depth sounder off on the main system

34 IS15 Instrument System Installation hints
Take time to read the instructions General Manual (comes with Transceiver and Expander) Wind Manual (comes with MHU) Hull transducer instructions come in the transducer box. Standard cable length on hull transducers is 10m (33’). May be extended to 15m(50’) using Airmar cable type. Some reduction in depth performance may be observed. Do not use other type of cable. MHU has 30m (98’) mast cable + 10m (33’) Roblink cable as standard. MHU with 40m (131’) or 50m(164’) cable available as optional extra

35 IS15 Instrument System Observe the maximum cable lengths as per the manuals Cables available as optional extra: IS15 Cable 2m (6,5’) P/N IS15 Cable 5m (16’) P/N IS15 Cable 10m (33’) P/N Cable Adapter (joiner) P/N for cable extension Roblink Power Cable P/N for 2-3 instrument heads when connected as (NMEA) repeaters (standard with W-1 Wind System)

36 IS15 Instrument System Installation hints
NMEA cables may be 70m long when using high density twisted pair cable. Observe instructions when connecting NMEA cables to Instruments Expander Follow instructions carefully at first time turn on Do not forget to turn off the Roblink when installing a single instrument as NMEA repeater

37 IS15 Instrument System Roblink cable lengths 1.
Total length of Roblink cables on one port is limited to 30m (100’) * IS15 Transceiver has one port with two connectors for the instruments: J1,J2 Observe the total cable lengths and use both connectors on Transceiver when practical Cable length from wind transducer (MHU) not to be included

38 IS15 Instrument System Roblink cable lengths 2.
IS15 Expander has two ports and four connectors for the instruments: J1(port one) and J2,J4,J5 (port two) The maximum number of instruments on one port is 7 A total of 8 instruments can be connected Connect/interconnect the instruments in the most practical way Keep in mind the cable length and number of instruments on each port

39 IS15 Instrument System Instrument connections
Four identical two pin connector sockets Each socket is identified by number and signal markings Power (1) and Roblink (2) connections may be interchanged unless otherwise stated in installation instructions No.3 connector (SENSOR) is only for the wind sensor in a stand-alone wind system The NMEA port is uni-directional (in or out) Instrument connectors

44 IS15 Expander IS15 Expander, connector and terminal locations

45 IS15 NMEA Interface Input/Output NMEA sentences 1) Recommended 2)
Transducer offset is local in IS15, hence offset in DPT input sentence is ignored. Recommended 2) This sentence not required with Transceiver or Expander in the system.

46 IS15 NMEA Interface IS15 Expander NMEA interface

47 IS15 NMEA Interface NMEA connections
The instrument port is unidirectional (in or out ) It is automatically configured as listener when hearing a talker NMEA input (from talker) is non polarised If anomalies or erratic readings are observed, swap the wires NMEA output (to listener) is polarised

48 IS15 NMEA Interface Expander NMEA connections Dedicated input ports
Connect GPS/Plotter to TB5 (input) and TB6 (output) Connect autopilot or other equipment to TB11 input and TB7 output Output ports transmit same data Each port should be limited to two listeners. Please observe: IS15 will not read water speed and temperature on NMEA when there is an Expander (or Transceiver) in the system

52 IS15 Combi and Multi Access of installation screens

53 IS15 trouble shooting Roblink test 1 Acess intallation menu ’General’ and then ’Roblink test’ (Combi only) The numbers will count steadily up from 136 to 255 Flickering numbers indicates a problem with the specific data . Counting down to 15 indicates data not present on Roblink

54 IS15 trouble shooting Message rate in times/sec.
Roblink test 2 Message rate in times/sec. Slow message or flickering message rate may indicate erratic data POS/NA1/NA2 may flicker because of low NMEA rate Accumulates checksum errors - 5% is acceptable Message rate = 5: 15 errors/min. is acceptable Message rate=1: 3 errors/min. is acceptable

55 IS15 trouble shooting Roblink test 3 Identifies the NMEA information that is received on the individual heads If NMEA data is not transformed onto Roblink this may be checked on the Roblink Data Detect, Roblink test no. 1 A faulty head may cause the problem

56 IS15 trouble shooting Speed indication does not go to zero reading when boat is not moving. Old Transceiver with V1R2 software Strong current (boat is moored) Speed indication is reading zero all the time Speed sensor not connected Paddle wheel stuck or defective

57 IS15 Trouble shooting Cannot get NMEA data out from an instrument
Instrument has been set up/configured as listener Enter NMEA setup menu and select ”NMEA communication: OUT” Instrument is locked up and says ”Please wait” Typical problem in stand-alone systems Caused by high frequency ripple on 12V supply jamming the Roblink Install a 100mF capacitor across 12V terminals Install IS15 Power Supply Always set ”Roblink OFF” if single NMEA repeater

58 IS15 Trouble shooting Erratic depth reading
Check that transducer surface is clean Check Transceiver version (latest unit code is IA) Older versions may give erratic readings, especially in shallow and muddy waters Water ingress in transducer (check capacitance an resistance) Check mounting location if problem at high speed and heavy sea Water ingress and/or misty instrument Check if old version with double glass (gluing problem) Check mounting method (open back / angle)
