16 RITS

17 RITS GOOD NEWS! An enhancement has been added to RITS so that when an update is made to an existing record in RITS Web the school will no longer default to the first school in the alphabetical drop down list. This means that LEAs will no longer also have to recheck the school field as that field will stay the same when the record is updated. Most schools across the state are now in session. That being said, RITS cases in review have really ticked up the past couple of weeks. It may take a few days to review so plan accordingly if you need numbers for testing etc. Please be sure to follow the RITS Guidance on the RITS page to expedite getting SASIDS. There is a scheduled RITS training for Wednesday, August 30th from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. RITS Contact: Genevieve Hale at

18 RITS The training webinar will be geared towards new RITS respondents however, those who need a refresher can also participate.  The first hour will cover topics such as RITS Web, RITS Match Tool, and RITS Batch.  Common questions will be addressed as well as where to find helpful materials on CDE’s Website.  The final half hour will be open for questions that participants have.  The call in number and webinar address are as follows: Call in at:  There is no need to RSVP for the training.  RITS Contact: Genevieve Hale at

40 Kindergarten Readiness

41 Overview of Kindergarten School Readiness Data Reporting
9/22/2018 Overview of Kindergarten School Readiness Data Reporting Passed in 2008, Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids (CAP4K) requires districts to report school readiness data to the Colorado Department of Education. In March 2016, the State Board of Education voted to adopt a system for reporting school readiness data. The system calls for districts to submit only aggregate readiness information not by domain, but by number of domains in which students demonstrate readiness as illustrated in the following sample table.

42 Data Reporting Elements
As required by Colorado law (Section (1)(b) C.R.S.), school readiness includes both developmental and academic areas: physical well-being and motor development, social and emotional development, language and comprehension, cognition, and general knowledge (math and literacy). Teaching Strategies GOLD ® areas: Social-Emotional, Physical, Language, Cognitive, Literacy and Math. The reporting system is intended to provide baseline data for measuring improvement in students’ knowledge and skills over time. READ (HB ) -If a district administers the READ Act assessment in the first 60 days of the school year, it is not required to administer the literacy component of the school readiness assessment. -Information gleaned from READ assessments administered within the first 60 days can be used to inform the literacy component of the school readiness kindergarten entry assessment. Data can be used from READ to enter data into the KEA survey’s literacy area. -All 6 required areas must be completed in the school readiness assessment for kindergarten entry within the first 60 days.

43 Data Reporting Elements
Data reported to CDE will be from the initial fall assessment window for school readiness, which is the first 60 calendar days of the school year as required by HB Various assessment tools have been approved by the State Board and are available for use: GOLD® by Teaching Strategies, HighScope Child Observation Record (COR), and DRDP-K. For districts using GOLD®: Kindergarten teachers may complete the initial assessment by using the Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA) Survey in GOLD® for the first checkpoint. Teaching Strategies is developing a customized report within the assessment tool that will allow districts to automatically aggregate and report on the state board approved data reporting elements. The report will be available in the early Fall. Please note that some districts have obtained state board approved waivers; however, this is a waiver from the assessment tool and not the collection. The Kindergarten School Readiness (KSR) collection will be open from mid October to mid December. Districts may also use the reduced-item set of objectives and dimensions to complete the KEA. NOTE: Some districts have obtained state board approved waivers from using these assessment tools; however, the waiver is from the assessment tool and not from the collection.

44 Sample School Readiness Report
Determination of School Readiness Data Reporting by the State Board of Education Sample School Readiness Report Data will be disaggregated by school by gender, free or reduced lunch eligibility status, and race/ethnicity

45 Kindergarten School Readiness (KSR) Updates
How will the school readiness contacts and data respondents connect? If you would like assistance connecting with your district’s school readiness contact, please me It will be up to the district to decide who will be submitting the data in Data Pipeline- whether that be the data respondent or the school readiness contact. The reason for connecting with the school readiness contacts is that this role should have access to the report in GOLD®, for those districts using GOLD®. For districts that are using Teaching Strategies, we understand that Teaching Strategies may be a new thing for many of you. However, it shouldn’t be new for your school readiness contact.

46 Kindergarten School Readiness (KSR) Updates (continued)
Can Teaching Strategies upload data straight to CDE? No. The State Board of Education entered into an MOU with Teaching Strategies which disallows Teaching Strategies from providing CDE with direct access to the data. Districts must upload data to CDE. Will trainings be offered? Report Product Demo 9/5 at 4pm (targeted at GOLD® users): Full walk-through webinar 10/4 at 4pm For more information, please view the School Readiness Updated Webinar from May 22, 2017 on Kindergarten School Readiness: Assessment Menu (~11:35) Assessment Implementation (16:42-20:09) Data Collection (26:46-35:05) Note: If there are other aspects that you would like training on or would like information on that is not readily accessible, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

47 Timeline Goals for August Goals for September Goals for October
If not yet completed, please assign KSR-APPROVER role in IdM CDE will follow up with districts who have not assigned the KSR- APPROVER role in IdM Mark down training dates as they are released via , in town halls, and on our website Goals for September Report Product Demo 9/5 at 4pm (targeted at GOLD® users): Weekly s will begin around mid-September for those assigned to the collection (about one month prior to the collection opening) Goals for October Attend training on 10/4 at 4pm, if interested Anticipated date of collection opening on 10/11
