Changes in co-chairs Input from community at the 2012 Breckenridge meeting on having aerosols more prominently represented in ChemClimWG Bringing Steve Ghan (PNNL) as third co-chair (with Peter Hess, Cornell), replacing Arlene Fiore (Lamont-Doherty/Columbia) Spring meeting with AMWG/WAWG/PolarWG

Additional support DOE is bringing funds to support ½ of an aerosol liaison (Po-Lun Ma), to be housed at PNNL (but with frequent visits/interactions with NCAR) First tasks include documentation of MAM code and usage and diagnostics

Upcoming release(s): new features
Implementation of full chemistry with MAM3/MAM7 (new compsets) Expanded representation of secondary organic aerosols (in BAM), including a more speciated representation of biogenic emissions (MEGAN2.1) Speciated dust and improved refractive index MAM4 (MAM3+fresh carbon mode) Improved arctic aerosol concentrations

Participation in ACCMIP
Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Model Intercomparison Project (ACCMIP) in support of CMIP5 simulations for the definition of radiative forcings. 7 papers submitted on ACPD Additional papers in preparation include nitrogen/sulfate deposition, air quality and agriculture impact.

Morrison double-moment cloud microphysics in embedded cloud-resolving model coupled with CAM5 MAM aerosol Cloud effects on aerosol driven by cloud statistics from CRM Provides guidance for reduced aerosol indirect effect in CAM5 Going on trunk in next few months

Future work: int’l efforts
GeoMIP: look at chemical impacts of Solar Radiation Management Hindcast experiment: focus on 1960-present reconstruction of tropospheric and stratospheric changes in atmospheric composition (led by P. Hess)
