TRADITIONAL PLAN VS HSA PLAN
This is used for regular medical expenses and employees keep what they don’t spend. Employee’s Spending Account Monthly Payment Insurance Premium Insurance Premium Traditional vs. HSA. With a traditional plan you pay a certain amount of monthly premium to your insurance company regardless of it you use those funds or not. The benefit of an HSA-based plan is that you have a lower premium which allows you to contribute to an HSA account. You essentially you are paying yourself some of that money and you can use it when you need it. –You can share your own experience with HSAs here.

When you are enrolled in this insuracen the IRS allows you to have a health savings account. HealthEquity is the financial custodian. WHAT’S AN HSA? A tax-free savings account that belongs to you, and: Can be used to pay for qualified medical expenses Earns interest Can be invested once a certain threshold is met You and/or Employer Contribute Qualified Medical Expense Your HSA

Who’s eligible? To qualify for an HSA, you must:
Be covered under a qualified health plan on the first day of any month for which eligibility is claimed Not be enrolled in Medicare Not be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return Have no other insurance except what’s permitted by the IRS (see IRS Publication 969) Discuss double coverage, example: if you are on your souses non-qualified insurance plan you are not eligible to contribute to an HSA.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE 2012 maximum contributions allowed by the IRS:
Single-coverage $3,100 (2013—$3,250) Family-coverage $6,250 (2013—$6,450) Catch-up contribution, age 55+ $1,000 (2013—$1,000) Fully fund your HSA on day one (subject to the annual maximum) Make contributions anytime after your HSA is open Make pretax contributions through payroll deduction, online, or directly to HealthEquity
