Introduction Our Rube Goldberg machine’s purpose was to not only light up two Jack-O-Lanterns, but to also activate a volcanic island. We used materials from our rooms and left over materials from Estabrook 13. Overall materials cost $16.63.

Overview The first step of Child’s Play is a ball rolling down a ramp which then falls into a plastic cup connected to a pulley. The pulley triggers two reactions: the release of the hinge below the coffee pot and the pivoting of the sport’s bottle. These two reactions produce the final outcome of Child’s Play.

Engineering Concepts Conservation of Energy Ball and Ramp Mgh= ½ mv2
(32.2 ft/s2)(.458 ft.)= ½ v2 V=5.433 ft/s2 Torque Pulley, Ball, and Cup Torque=Frsin(theta) T=(.0625lbs)(.0521ft)sin(115˚) T= ft-lbs

Final Words… We started the project Monday afternoon due to scheduling issues, and it was completed in 2 two-to-three hour periods. Problems we came across: We did not account for Center Of Mass when we initially constructed the sport’s bottle pivot, so we repositioned the pivot point. We had to consider Conservation of Momentum in order for the siphoning of water to reach final destination.
