1. Word Processing Activity
Type up the following text and print it out. Do not worry about how it appears at this stage.
As you type this exercise you will notice that you do not have to do anything to get the words onto the next line, as they will automatically wrap for you. A flashing vertical line, an insertion point, marks the place where the text, words, will appear. To get a capital letter you hold down one of the Shift keys as you type that letter. To end a paragraph you press Enter, which puts you onto the next line and then press Enter again to drop down another line.
Whatever you write should be relevant to the purpose of your writing; if you include superfluous material, you waste your own time and that of your reader who not only has more to read but also has to spend time sorting the wheat from the chaff. You must ensure that your reader can distinguish between what is fact and what is merely opinion or assumption. You should aim to write so clearly that your reader will grasp your meaning at the first reading. You can achieve this aim by carefully selecting the words you use, by arranging them correctly to express your thoughts, and by setting out those thoughts in a logical sequence. Finally you should be as brief as possible.
Finally, amend the document so that it closely resembles the one shown on the following page. (The text and arrows are only there as indicators and should not be part of the finished document)
Once completed save the document with the name WPExercise1 and print a copy.
