3 What is Discipline? For our purposes, discipline is “to teach” students self-control, not “to punish.” In fact, punishment as a form of discipline to gain control is a last resort.

4 Approach to classroom management!
Be proactive – self control first

5 Management styles Authoritarian approach - strict rules to obey, rigid “…you’ll do it because I told you so…” Lenient/permissive approach - not setting limits or responds to disobedience. Authoritative approach – Combine the above. Balances nurturing with setting clear limits, gives guidance without controlling, seeks input from children for important decisions, sets high standards of responsibility, and encourages independence, not dependency.

11 How do I take control of a situation?
Know the school rules. Apply them without exceptions Be fair Use words that is non threatening and do not ask a question (You will never receive a correct answer) Be assertive and never loose your temper. Be respectful but firm Be aware that you are working on a reputation of either being to lenient, strict or fair. Know your limitations. When you are dealing with a situation that should be handled by administration, refer it immediately to them. Never walk away from a situation. Add key points in the history of your country to the timeline.

12 Classroom Organization
Your Classroom need to be well organized Lets start of with the homework ( See picture) Homework on my whiteboard On my voic On my wikispace If students are absent: I have a folder for homework next to the Assignment Assistant box. All work for absentees will go in the box with their name on it. They check the Binder for the missing homework and find it in the box Insert a map of your country.

14 Classroom expectations
Walk into classroom quietly and be seated. Come to class with pencils, paper, and assignments Sharpen pencils before the tardy bell rings. If you do not have a pencil or paper, you should borrow before the tardy bell rings. Begin warm–up activity immediately. Raise your hand and be recognized before speaking or leaving your desk. Walk quietly to the restroom. Respect: Classmates Teacher Classroom and materials Appropriate language at all times Follow all school rules Follow all classroom procedures Insert a picture illustrating a season in your country.
