As an escape room creator, your goal is to design the most fun and challenging escape room that enhances the gaming experience. You need puzzles that not only challenges the customers but that will also be fun an entertaining. 4 Don’t go for perfection A lot of creators make the mistake of taking things beyond perfection. However, it is not possible to design puzzles with perfection. Most of the times, you start with one idea and end up with a different idea. Creating puzzles involves a bunch of locks and combinations that co0uld be interchangeable with any room. The best way to look satisfying puzzles is to look at the theme of your room. Whether it is a doctor’s room, cave or cockpit of a plane – you can start designing simple puzzles with creative ideas.

For example – if you have designed a bank theme – think of the activities people do in banks and the objects found in banks. Design the room using the most obvious items. Try to use them in limited quantity as large number of objects may annoy the players. Think of what else you can do in a bank. You can even arrange costumes for players to take the gaming experience to the next level. You should also engage participants with senses that help them to find clues when they smell or touch the objects.

Difficulty level The challenges in escape room should be of moderate difficulty. As said above, people enter escape room with an intention to enjoy and release their stress. If the puzzles are too complicated and difficult to solve, they get annoyed and may not return again. If you want to make the escape rooms a bit challenging, you can include 3-4 levels. Each level should have different puzzles with different difficulty levels.

It is must to think from the point of view of the general public. Each puzzle should have 2-3 different routes to solve. You can design a higher number of puzzles on the easier side. Remember that there are people who might be visiting your escape room for the first time.

Structure of puzzles The room should have several puzzles that can be solved at one time. This helps the participants to break into groups and solve without wasting time. It is important to test the puzzles ahead to make sure that the players will solve them within the given time. Keep the puzzles in moderate number as too many puzzles may confuse the players.

Do not link the puzzles with one another. Creating such puzzles is difficult for you as well as the players. The main aim of escape room games to encourage team building. There is nothing worse than having someone standing with nothing to do while all others are having fun. Remember that it is not possible to redesign the escape rooms. To make the room better, you should have a pretty good ins and outs of the room. The main aim of escape room games to encourage team building
