a personal Señor Mascari

Remember about direct objects? A direct object is the person or thing that receives the action of a verb. Ejemplos: I have a book. I see the window. I need some pencils. Why is the a so personal?

When the direct object is a person or group of people, you must add an a before it. Thats why its called the personal a. Ejemplos: I want to visit my grandparents. Quiero visitar a mis abuelos. I want to visit Mr. López. Quiero visitar al Señor López. (a + el) Why is the a so personal?

To ask who receives the action of a verb, use ¿A quién? Ejemplos: ¿A quién quieres visitar? (Who do you want to visit?) Quiero visitar a mi familia. (I want to visit my family.) ¿A quién buscas? (Who are you looking for?) Busco a mi hermano. (I am looking for my brother.) Why is the a so personal?

The personal a is also used when the direct object is an animal, especially a pet. Ejemplos: Busco a mi perro. (I am looking for my dog.) Busco a mi hermano. (I am looking for my brother.) Why is the a so personal?

The personal a is NOT used after the verb tener. Ejemplos: Tengo muchos tíos. (I have many aunts and uncles.) Tengo dos gatos. (I have two cats.) Why is the a so personal?
