LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF Lynet Wesley EDU 692 July 31, 2013

Part I: Demographics ◦ Female ◦ 31 years old ◦ African American ◦ Fiancé ◦ Mother of a three year old ◦ Pre-K 4 teacher

Family Structure I grew up in a two parent household. I am the sixth child out of nine. My family was considered the ideal family because most of the black families in the community lack fathers in their families. My parents raised me and my siblings to love one another and to always have each other’s back. We were also raised to put God first in our lives and everything will work in our favor. My personal family consists of me, my fiancé’ Terrell, and my daughter Madison. My family serves as my inspiration and has helped shaped my character.

Education Level I am the first of out my siblings to attend college and graduate. I obtains a associates degree in Liberal Arts and a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Child Development. I am currently focusing on completing my masters degree in Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. My education serves as a foundation of my life. I have a passion for working with children and I feel dealing with children inspired me to be the person I am today.

Physical/Mental Disabilities I personally don’t have a disability but my twin sister is partially deaf. Her having this disability helped improved my ability of helping others. I was the person that taught her how to read, write, and speak English fluent. After taking on this task, it help me distinguish what my calling is and that is to work with children. This has help form my identity. I am empathic, loving, caring and most of all patient.

Part 2: Personal story ◦ I was raised in the South in a small close knit town called Bayou Goula, Louisiana. Everybody is related, so the community is considered one big family. I was raised in poverty but my parents made sure me and my siblings had the necessities to be successful in life. ◦ I attended a public K-12 school that played a major role in me finishing school. The leaders of these schools were like my parents away from home. They made sure I was headed down the right path. I just wasn’t a name and face to them. ◦ Once I graduated high school, I decided to work instead of going to college because my parents embed in me as a child that you don’t need to go to school in order to be successful. ◦ I decided to go to college because I wanted to set an example for my younger siblings. I was the first to go to college and graduate with an associates and bachelors degree and the first to be obtaining a masters degree. ◦ One thing my parents instilled in me as a child was that nothing is handed to you, you have to work for it. I lived by this everyday, it motivates me to be a better woman for my daughter and soon to be husband. This advice helps me exceed to my max potential.
