1
Reasons for an Illuminated ABS Light
2
The ABS exists to avoid your car from skidding dangerously during braking.
3
It is an automated safety system that recognizes when your wheels stop rotating while on the road and it releases brake fluid pressure allowing the wheels to continue to rotate.
4
This improves the car's handling and stops the car from locking up and skidding out of the road.
5
The moment any issue outbreaks in the ABS, a corresponding light named ABS glows up on your dashboard.
6
Here are some of the common reasons for an illuminated ABS light:
8
These sensors are built into every wheel's hub, which determines the rate at which the wheels are moving & transmits the data to the anti-lock braking system(ABS).
9
When the ABS gets to know that one or more wheels are moving slower than others, then it releases the brake fluid pressure for uniform wheel movement.
10
But if the speed sensor is a faulty one, then the ABS will detect that and the warning light gets flashed on the dashboard.
12
The brake fluid plays a vital role in controlling the braking pressure within the ABS.
13
When the ABS fluid reservoir is low, then the content of air is more and the ABS will not work properly.
14
This also results in the glowing of the ABS light on the dashboard.
16
When any wheel is moving slower than others, then the hydraulic valve is responsible for increasing the brake fluid pressure.
17
As a result, the wheel does not lose traction with the ground and the car remains stable.
18
This hydraulic pump may also be damaged due to internal wear because of the dirty brake fluid and its malfunction is conveyed by the ABS light.
20
A faulty ABS module disturbs the transfer of information from the speed sensors in the wheels to the ABS.
21
The problem in the relay of the information is mainly due to corrosion in the module or some issues in the wiring.
22
In such cases, also the ABS light is on and indicates to replace the ABS functional module.
24
The reason for the illuminated ABS light might have nothing to do with the ABS functional module as the problem may be with the light.
25
Regular checks should be done to be sure that all the bulbs of the car's warning lights on the dashboard are working properly.
26
If the bulb of the ABS warning light is not functioning properly, then it might remain on all by itself.
