Presentation on theme: "Tips for Choosing the Best Contractor"— Presentation transcript:

Tips for Choosing the Best Contractor The quality of HVAC work depends on who performs it. Although it seems as if all commercial heating and cooling companies would have the expertise and professionalism to do the job right, some of them do not. The tips below will help you avoid contractors that perform poor work and/or offer bad customer service

Make Sure the Contractor is Licensed, Bonded, and Insured Without an HVAC license, a contractor is not permitted to perform HVAC work in the state of Georgia, and it may lack the knowledge to perform HVAC work at all. Without bonding, a contractor does not offer compensation for stolen possessions. Without insurance, a contractor does not offer compensation for injuries or property damage. Make Sure the Contractor has the Right Experience Ensuring that HVAC commercial contractors have the right experience involves two things: making sure they have experience installing, repairing, and maintaining commercial HVAC systems, and confirming they have experience with the type of system you have, or the type you will implement. In the end, hiring a contractor who is notexperienced with your type of system could be as counterproductive as hiring one who isn't experienced with commercial heating and cooling in any form.

Hire a Contractor that Employs NATE Certified Technicians Technicians that are certified by North American Technical Excellence Association, Inc., (NATE) possess advanced training that other technicians do not. This training results in a versatile understanding of new HVAC technologies and knowledge of the best HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance practices. Speak With Customer References in Depth The references of a contractor can be an invaluable resource for evaluating the quality of its customer service. You should request at least six them - enough to supply a meaningful range of opinion - and ask the right questions when you speak to them. Instead of asking general questions, focus on specific questions like the ones below: Did the price of the project remain the same as the quoted price? Were the workers receptive to communication? Could parts of the job have been done better?

Check the Record of the Contractor at the Better Business Bureau A contractor's record at the Better Business Bureau (BBB) can reveal things that you might not learn about from its references, such as whether it has a history of not resolving customer complaints. If the BBB record of a contractor shows unresolved complaints that are more than a month old, you should cross the contractor off your list. Conclusion Evaluating commercial HVAC contractors is a crucial part of hiring the right company for the job. If you need a contractor, the tips above should inform your selection process. To begin your search, check the website of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) for a list of HVAC contractors in your area.
